Big Ten reveals new divisions, the names of Trophy after Stagg and Paterno (Philadelphia Inquirer)

It may seem that coach for Penn State as Joe Paterno as long as the College football pioneer Amos Alonzo Stagg, and thanks to the big Ten Conference combine past and present is progressing in its extended range, 12 members of 2011, football season two coaches icons will be forever linked.

Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany revealed aspects of the new look Big ten to a conference call yesterday, which included the unveiling of an updated logo and the names for the two divisions of six teams, as well as scholarships football 18, designed to meet some of the most remarkable in the history of tradition, figures 115-year of the League.

Penn State, who had joined the Big Ten in 1993, is assigned to the division "Leaders", with Ohio State, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Purdue. "Legends" division is composed of Michigan, Michigan State, Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern and Big 12 expatriate Nebraska, which officially comes aboard on 1st July next year.

Said well thought Delany was given what should call the new divisions, as well as the allocation of its members. It was finally decided by the chairpersons of the Conference and sports administration was too simplistic to make these determinations based solely on the geographical situation.

"We had to try to achieve competitive equality unanimous support," said Delany when asked for the crucial factor determining that schools have been assigned to a particular division. "We had also support in an attempt to maintain rivalry games as much as they could."

"We do believe that we could make geography because we maybe seven schools, which could be described as centrally located."

To this end, traditional rivals, the Ohio State and Michigan, although in different divisions will continue to play another annually in their regular-season-end blood feud.

Among the news or updates of trophies announced is the trophy Stagg-Paterno Championship which will be presented to the winner of the title game Conference which must be played from the next season.

Stagg was 102 when he died in 1965, 1892 in 1932 coach at the University of Chicago, who was one of the founding members of the Big Ten. He has guided the chestnuts in the National Championships in 1905 and 1913. His last season a head coach on a secondary activity of the College was 1946, at the University of the Pacific, while he was 84.

Which makes him a perfect for a co-named with colleagues field Award selection octogenarian boss Paterno, which transforms the 84 21 December. Perhaps this is why JoePa, who loves too much of a fuss made on him, has consented to the arrangement contacted by the Big Ten.

So what does Paterno say when rang subject to lend its name to the new game Big Ten Championship trophy?

"He gave us his approval," said Delany. "I was not talking to him personally." One of our staff members have made. I hope he is happy.

Among other prizes begin to be delivered in 2011 and in the future as coach Hayes-Schembechler year appointed to deceased luminaires Woody Hayes, Ohio State and Bo Schembechler, Michigan. the offensive player George Graham of the year, the name Otto Graham and Eddie George Woodson Nagurski year-round, the name Bronko Nagurski and Charles Woodson defensive player.

Delany said that prices are intended to honor the winners trophy Heisman 18 and 20 Hall of producers for which they are appointed, the better to inspire future generations of the Big Ten athletes and coaches.

"We hope that [names] echo," said Delany. "What we tried to do here is not stuck in the past, but to build on the past and think of new and innovative ways to move forward." "That made sure that you are aware of where you just."*

Lee back Phillies in the agreement for five years (the Philadelphia Inquirer)

Pinch yourself, the Phillies fans.

What was once fantasy became a reality.

CHARLES KRUPA / resume from Associated Press Cliff Lee the Phillies give them a formidable rotation with Roy Halladay Roy Oswalt, Cole Hamels. What was the most daring move of the Phillies in the last year?

Cliff Lee, even after more money offered by Texas Ranger American League champion and champion of world series of 27 times the Yankees in New York, has decided to sign with the Phillies.

This is the kind of Philadelphia history most of you probably thought you would never read.

Director General of the Phillies Reuben Amaro Jr. said Tuesday morning that he could neither confirm or deny the agreement but rumbles on the participation of the Phillies in the bid Lee began early Monday night and just before midnight, MLB.com has reported that the Rangers had said the lefthander veteran has been signed with the Phillies.

Lee will receive an agreement would have approximately 100 million over five years with an option to acquire grade. His agent, Darek, Braunecker, did not return telephone calls of The Inquirer. The 32-year-old lefthander has a 12-9 combined with an ERA with Seattle and Texas 3.18 last season and has a 102-61 with an ERA 3.85 career record. It is 10 career Playoffs starts, 7-2 with a 2.13 ERA, including a 4-0 with the Phillies record during the playoffs 2009.

Both the Yankees and the Rangers had the best offers on the table, but Lee apparently fell in love with the Phillies in the 2009 World Series team and wanted to return. According to ESPN, the Yankees offered a contract for six years with an option for a seventh season $ 138 million. After that the Phillies traded him to the last year, Seattle, Mariners have been occasions when Lee sounds like a jilted lover when he spoke of the Phils.

Deal with the Phillies Lee comes exactly 362 days after Amaro exchanged the lefthander for browsers to three perspectives on the same day as acquired team Roy Halladay Blue Jays Toronto for three other perspectives.

The principal then Phillies fans lament was that the team has not kept the two aces. Amaro said at the time that the Phillies to replenish its operating system. The Director General has been widely criticized for much of last season, because the three perspectives the Phillies won for Lee - pitchers Phillippe Aumont and J.C. Ramirez and fielder Tyson Gillies - all had disappointing seasons in the minor leagues.

Amaro atoned for the loss of Lee at the trade deadline when he managed to wrest Roy Oswalt far the Houston Astros and the Phillies went 49-19 in their final games 68 to win their fourth National League title is right. Bid team of for a fourth right NL pennant fell short when they lost to the Giants in San Francisco, the team may have had a more profound than the Phillies starting rotation possible World Series champion.

The Phillies will go into next season with the formidable Quartet Halladay, Lee, Oswalt and Cole Hamels, which will no doubt be favorites not only win the National League, but also the World Series.

When exchanged Phillies Lee last December, the feeling is that they do not have the means to keep the Halladay and him on the payroll.

Interviewed repeatedly on the payroll in recent weeks, Amaro and team President David Montgomery has refused to say what would be the ceiling for 2011. Amaro said last week that the Phillies would be willing to spend for the right free agent before the end of the winter meeting, but added that he did not team expect to make a great trip.

This statement was similar to his last December just before the Halladay and Lee trades.

The Phillies lose their first round draft pick for signing Lee and their pay is currently more than 170 million to 19 players, amounting to unthinkable two years ago and there may be even for two days. Reported that the team strives to get rid of some salary offering Joe Blanton, Raul Ibanez and Kyle Kendrick trades. But even if they can make these agreements, the Phillies payroll deductions remain in uncharted territory.

This is a story for another day.

History of this day is Clifton stars Lee loved so he decided to Philadelphia, no there is no other place, including Yankee Stadium, where he wanted to play.

Bowen: Sources Review: Vick Eagle say all good things (the Philadelphia Inquirer)

Posted 14 December 2010 the Tue by Les Bowen
NewsDaily Philadelphia Daily News Sports ColumnistOF all scenarios end-game possible for Sunday night's Eagles visit to Dallas, little could be the one where offence Eagle saves battered defence, tattered by organizing the balloon for the final 4 minutes and 22 seconds, running LeSean McCoy down throat cowboys, the.

The Eagles are not known team running within the framework of Andy Reid, you'll be shocked to learn. The fact that they ranked fourth in the NFL in rushing yards per game of weekend is often dismissed as a by-product of magic décousu Michael Vick. Play as the perception was that McCoy managed six features in the Sunday, 1st semester only 15 yards.

Subsequently, McCoy noted that patience is a virtue. This is particularly true for running under the regime of Marty Reid Mornhinweg back. Its 10 contains the second half NET 134 yards. A bad taste had yards 56 which has implemented a field goal, Eagles worked at a deficit of 20-14. But also critical, and perhaps most striking, and 12-, 19-, 13 - 6 yards running McCoy submitted to offshore in ensuring that the cowboys never had a chance for the most affected Jason Witten after their arrival in 30-27.

It had something to do with the strength that McCoy acquired in the NHL, but also to do with his blockers. The last drive was amazing, as Dallas would be thinking that the Eagles wanted to run, but Todd Herremans note never returned cowboys left guard security to try to consolidate their "d".

"We basically performs the same pieces again and again, and they were unable to stop the choice," tight end Brent Celek mother last night on "Live daily news of Comcast SportsNet."

DEVELOPMENT OF SCENARIOS

* Dimitri Patterson takes too many penalties. It was a painful hear him to reject dump mask which kept alive the first touch of Dallas Sunday night as "me being aggressive" drive and opines that its later sentence illegal-contact "could have gone in two cases," Patterson feeling sink ran into him. But Patterson has three interceptions in its six starts since replacing Ellis Hobbs, four for the season. His pick Sunday was enormous room for a defence that was struggling.

* Brent Celek taken step. Yes, they need him (and more) to maintain and to assist in the line of o with blocking passage. But I think that some below short throws would have worked real well against defense of cowboys, the. Stat sheet said Celek was twice; I one of those, recalled that the ball Mike tried to force Vick deep in the middle of Celek selected off the coast. Another was apparently a balloon lays down the line.

* I think I've said before, but it bears repeating: units cover special-teams added Colt Anderson, Bobby April is now a genius again. Funny how that works. In 2002, Keith Adams came the cowboys of waivers and did the same thing to John Harbaugh, whose coverage teams had a terrible start.

* I was in Dallas a bunch of times now and it still seems strange to me after the match, when they distribute the transcription of Jerry Jones press conference where the owner examines how this guy or that guy played and how her coach is. You want to know what is wrong with the cowboys, start here. Yeah, Jerry played once at Arkansas. Was therefore is Shawn Andrews. Everyone who played college football isn't NFL Director General hardware. It is always good to have a healthy respect for what you do not know. Unclear that Jerry never takes this concept into account.

* Statistics are really saying, but the Eagles did a solid job to stop execution when they should. Subtract from Jon Kitna 27 yards on three transports and 26-yard end-around Miles Austin and Dallas "real" runners got 57 yards 20 carries.

WHO KNOWS?

As Terry Gregson did not need to be present for a penalty of diving to evaluate?

OBSCURE STAT

After a 1-to-6 on third down three Eagles conversions start their five last converted starting right at the end of the third quarter, which was an excellent time to begin with, it has proven that.

EXTRA POINT

Michael Vick has been flawless Sunday - held too long ball and made some bad decisions at constant pressure of Dallas - but with a different return fourth quarter to win, Vick further cemented his status as a leader of the offence.

"Mike, how he plays, how he fights, getting hit like that, it drives you," LeSean McCoy said Sunday night.

Subsequently, Vick knew exactly what he was expected to say in the decision of DeSean Jackson to deceive and to dive back in the box instead of content to simply mark landing fourth dynamic quarter in a conventional manner. Vick said he was upset, he noted that the sanction on the kick-off could be devastating (even if it is, thanks to an exceptional coverage).

Vick also knew to lighten his criticism by calculation if you take a hitch 91 yards for a touchdown passes, you may need to be able to do whatever you want in the celebration. This was the note strike, recognizing that talent Jackson saved the day, taking him also responsible for what could be a game changing error.

As the Eagles try to navigate in the field of mining contract the DeSean sadness, Vick is a huge weapon in their arsenal. Jackson was whether playing with Vick will improve its stats, his money and his reputation in the long term. Moreover, Vick is not under contract after this season, but it is not worrying about it.

BTW, Vick asked treatment Board hits on him last night in her weekly Virginia Beach radio appearance on the "Tony Mercurio Show." "" "I want to be a problem", said Vick. "I'll continue to play my game." Each has its own style of play. I'm not going to beg the refs for calls. They are all what is appropriate at the time. "This is something I don't want to speak of".

On the noncall when he was hit at the sideline by Anthony Spencer, room when Andy Reid embarrassing on his helmet and obtained employees faces, Vick said: "I had one foot outside of the boundaries." Is there any place to activate the secondary activity. Refs make the call. I complain. I just continued to play the game. »

Q. you left Russia with limited English language command. How well can talk you now?

Unfortunately, there are problems with the visa, but I hope that everything will be resolved quickly.

Q. and that the problem of Russian cuisine at home?

(Laughs), Yes, it is certain.

Q. that you usually eat?

Eagles Rewind: (Philadelphia Inquirer)

Offence the Eagle had exploded. Now, they needed grind.

With 4 minutes and 22 seconds left in the game the Sunday night sitting on three points ahead Eagles and wanted to kill the clock. On the drive that they used the same schema of locking six consecutive times to collect first four downs and prevent the cowboys to return the ball.

The drive was an impressive display of blocking and running, pass protection Eagle remains a problem that may affect their aspirations.

After reviewing the video, here are the moments where the Eagle blockers shined and others when they are not enough:

After a passage to begin their final drive, the Eagles have begun their sequence muscular running with 3: 36 left in the game. They faced a 4 second to their own line of 16 yards.

Updated eagles on foot the Brent Celek tight ends and ceramic Harbor on the left side of their offensive line. The snap Celek and receiver Jason Avant took on the linebacker on the left. Tackle Jason Peters also blocked the defensive end of the left side. Nose - gear Jay Ratliff - drove right by Centre Mike McGlynn and guard Todd Herremans, opening a hole.

LeSean McCoy accused by the opening of 12 metres and a first down.

Harbor moved from left to right to block a linebacker on the other side of the coin.

Next five coins, Eagles used the same training as the port and Celek on the right side of the offence. On the first and 10, Peters and Herremans pushed to the left of the Eagle both inside defensive end, while Harbor came from right to left for seal linebacker DeMarcus Ware out once more to create a fold for McCoy.

McCoy made a third brand first right drop-down run on the next game with blocks of same, but this time it was cut to the right.

Jerome Harrison in law, and then Michael Vick, obtained using the same schema, false to himself and McCoy ran for nine.

The ensuing third-and-1, necessary Dallas a judgment to have any chance to tie the game. Once again, Peters and Shinglers blocked Herremans cowboy from left to right - towards the Interior of the field - leaving only Ware outside to stop on the left. Harbor was known from right to left and blocked Ware. McCoy shot by the gap for six yards. End of the game.

"The room that we were, I've just knew everything they could adapt to have to stop and just make great readings [McCoy] now and striking it is hard," Herremans said after the game. "They knew that we were running the ball and we were able to keep gaining yards and those early stockings were enormous."

Authorized Eagles pressure on Vick in various ways: strange blocking assignments, confusion caused by Dallas and individual match simply lose ups.

On a first down in the second quarter, the Eagles had seven blockers against five passes caused. But on deployment, aft Owen Schmitt has been assigned to block Ware, a star to rush the passage on the other side of the coin. This is a bad clash reminiscent of a game against the bears on which peppers Julius has been released. Easily rushed Ware low Schmitt and hammered Vick by behind.

Another room, the Eagles had seven blockers against six caused. But with the two ends of tight on Ware, it easily beat Vick forced pressure.

The Cowboys fooled the offensive line on a third quarter third down. Wingman defensive Jason Hatcher aligned King Dunlap gear but attacked inside. Dunlap and guard Max Jean-Gilles block Hatcher, allowing the cornerback Orlando Scandrick come from intact externally and to force Vick in an incomplete pass.

The first drive of the Eagle, DeMarcus Ware beat Jason Peters inwards to force Vick to abandon a collar and scramble. Anthony Spencer used the same gesture against Peters in the second quarter to pressure Vick interception.

Same Herremans, who had a solid game, has suffered. Ratliff worked simply by guard a bag of third quarter.

Running the Eagle was promising Sunday. Their protection, with games against the Giants and the remaining cowboy is still worrying.

Winning attitude (Philadelphia Inquirer)

Posted Tue, December 14, 2010 when the Eagles beat the cowboys fans can not help but be in a good mood. Bring on the Giants!

Although WINS for the Eagles. Large parts of Vick and Jackson establishes McCoy for big winners later in the game, which apparently has become a specialist in the fourth quarter, almost like a loved baseball. I am concerned about the status of the elbow of Bradley and other injuries. We hope that Samuel and justice will return next week. Stupid sanctions are disturbing and could be costly in future games. Back in New York on Sunday and almost wrap up the division with a victory against the Giants.

-Barry Mortzfield, Downingtown

The Eagles have the appearance of a team who can score points week materials and the week. Problem is that they can also allow many injuries defensive mount on the side of the ball. It's amazing to see how birds made of only two weapons offence - Jackson and McCoy. I think the Giants have their hands full next week if the eagles use all the weapons at their disposal! GO EAGLES!

-Paul Groffie, Marlton, NJ

I just return the Palace Jerry Jones and was formidable coming by behind (new) to fight in front of their fans still arrogantes. Bradley elbow seemed preposterous on TV HD monster size above the field. I hope that this is not too serious. Vick has taken a pounding but suspended y. Speed of Shady and DJ young held at night.

-John Braithwaite, Villanova

When Leonard Weaver crashed on his first report of the season, I was concerned that would make major blocks known and run the ball in situations of short film. No more. Mike Vick could be the biggest surprise of the season. But LeSean McCoy worked each bit hard. It reinforced every aspect of his game this year. It is a complete running back. And iced the game for us at night [Sunday].
